The first step to success often finding someone who’s already doing what you wanna be doing and then asking them for help. In other words, get yourself a mentor. So let’s ask why?

  1. LEARN FROM EXPERIENCE. We all make mistakes but why make the same one twice. When you face the tough decision, your coach or mentor has probably been there done that, and done it many times before, and can provide you valuable insights to help you make your own decisions to avoid more mistakes.
  2. FRESH PERSPECTIVE. Let’s face it’s sometimes difficult to see your own strengths, weaknesses and challenges clearly. But with a quality professional mentor or coach, they help you to understand yourself better. You can see things as they really are. Helping you in make informed objective decisions to help your business prosper.
  3. HARD DECISIONS. Having someone like this forces you to think difficult questions to consider what you really need and where you really want to go. A good mentor or coach can help you think about what you have to do and then nudge you if you’re a little bit stuck.
  4. NORMALIZE STRUGGLES. It’s normally rather assuring to hear your mentor say as something like, “This is something you’re struggling with? I struggled with that too. And you know what? All of us do.”
  5. IMPROVE PERFORMANCE. Mentors and coaches concretely improve our performances, as well as out satisfaction with work. Countless studies prove it time and time again. That people with mentors, make more money at work and are more satisfied with their lives.
  6. BIGGER NETWORK. A good mentor can open doors as well with all different experiences your mentor or coaches had. They have probably met a diverse range of interesting people. Something that is often overlooked is that mentors have the ability to lead you to even greater opportunity.
  7. INSPIRATION. A good mentor or a coach can help to inspire you. So might been thinking, “But role models inspire me too” And you know what they do too. But it’s not quite the same thing.
  8. PERSONALIZED HELP. Because you maintain in contact with your mentor, he or she can then tailor advice to fit your situation best.

Date Published: January 6, 2015

Running Time: 05:42minutes

Hey boys and girls, guys and girls, it’s John Millar here, the Naked Business Coach stripping business back to the bare basics. I wanna post a question to you, and talk a little bit about it. Of why you should get a mentor?

Now I find that the first step to success often finding someone who’s already doing what you wanna be doing and then asking them for help. In other words, get yourself a mentor. So let’s ask why?

  1. You can actually learn from their experience because we all make mistakes but why make the same one twice. When you face the tough decision your coach or mentor has probably been there done that, and done it many times before, and can provide you valuable insights to help you make your own decisions to avoid more mistakes.
  2. A mentor or coach brings a fresh perspective. Let’s face it’s sometimes difficult to see your own strengths, weaknesses and challenges clearly. But with a quality professional mentor or coach, they help you to understand yourself better. You can see things as they really are. Helping you in make informed objective decisions to help your business prosper.
  3. Mentor or coaches often ask you to make the hard decisions around hard questions. Having someone like this forces you to think difficult questions to consider what you really need and where you really want to go. A good mentor or coach can help you think about what you have to do and then nudge you if you’re a little bit stuck.
  4. A good mentor or coach normalizes out struggles. It’s normally rather assuring to hear your mentor say as something like, “This is something you’re struggling with? I struggled with that too. And you know what? All of us do.”
  5. Mentors and coaches concretely improve our performances, as well as out satisfaction with work. Countless studies prove it time and time again. That people with mentors, make more money at work and are more satisfied with their lives.
  6. A good mentor can open doors as well with all different experiences your mentor or coaches had. They have probably met a diverse range of interesting people. Something that is often overlooked is that mentors have the ability to lead you to even greater opportunity.
  7. A good mentor or a coach can help to inspire you. So might been thinking, “But role models inspire me too” And you know what they do too. But it’s not quite the same thing.
  8. Because you maintain in contact with your mentor, he or she can then tailor advice to fit your situation best.
